In case of leakage

Tania sent at May-14-2007 1:07:

If the balloon was to leak, would I need to have it immediately removed in the country of origin, i.e. UK or would I need to fly to Czech Republic?

The complication is very rare, yet serious. Therefore the most important for you is time span from the begining of leak and the speed of loosing the solution from the balloon. Such a case is an emergency if loosing majority of the liquid. Therefore I would recommend you to see a specialist as soon as possible, propably in yout homeland it could be sooner than getting a flight abroad. The amount of the retained volume in BIB could be assumed immediatelly by an ordinary plain abdominal X-ray exam and by an abdominal sonography, too. That should be done first. Then the gastroscopy with removal of the foreign body when a leak is confirmed.
