Dear Kate, BIB is rather a "baloon endoscopy" than a surgery. Yet, the criteria for indication of baloon use to be quite the same as for an operation, that is IIIrd degree of obesity. It depends how tall are you to say how many kilos you should be in order to get BIB. If you were 160 cm high you should be above 100 kg. Body Mass Index (BMI) should be above 40. Some patients may get their baloon even when having BMI above 35 and rarely even 30 (I.st degree obesity according the WHO classification).
