Profil of centre

St. Zdislava Hospital is the only private ward medical facility in Vysočina. It provides patients with the comprehensive medical care expected of a hospital of this size.

It serves not only the people of the Velké Meziříčí region, or southeast Vysočina, but has also acquired such a good reputation that it is sought after by patients from throughout the Czech Republic and even from abroad.

Our highly qualified team at the hospital can offer specialised procedures. These include miniinvasive stomach bandaging or large joint replacement operations. The hospital also provides a comprehensive service to the region and its people.

The St. Zdislava Hospital has been running for several years now without debts, subsidies or redevelopment from public budgets. It is a typical example of high-quality medical care in symbiosis with sound economic practice.

The St. Zdislava Hospital is therefore an essential and irreplaceable part of the network of medical facilities in Vysočina and the Czech Republic as a whole.

Bariatric and obesitological out-patient clinic

Surgery hours: Wed 12.00 – 14.00

For a long time now our clinic has dealt with the issue of treating the phenomenon of obesity and the major health risks linked with this problem continue to rise in the population of this country and around the world.

Working with a team of top specialists in obesitology, internal medicine, surgery, psychology, diabetology and gastroenterology we provide our patients with a comprehensive course of treatment.

Our department’s principal program is primarily the surgical treatment of obesity, particularly using and “adjustable stomach bandage which, due its high efficiency and relative simplicity, is now the most widespread operation to treat obesity in Europe. The number of operations we perform at our site now makes us one of the leading clinics in the CR.

We are also one of the few clinics in the country to offer other highly specialised operative methods to treat obesity.
We are happy to welcome you with your problems at our bariatric consultancy service, which is situated in the surgical out-patient clinic. Appointments must be made for examinations.

Surgical department

The surgical department is an essential part of Nemocnice sv. Zdislavy, a.s. Mostiště. Each of the branches of medical care in the hospital complements the others, ensuring that the care we provide is comprehensive. In addition to the other bed departments - internal medicine, orthopedics and follow-up care – our hospital’s surgical department provides a relatively wide range of surgical operations. The basic group comprises general surgical operations. In layman's terms we could say that most frequently we provide surgical therapy, in other words we operate on illnesses of the gall bladder, various types of hernias, appendicitis, tumours or other of the stomach and intestine. All sudden emergency conditions requiring immediate surgery, i.e. bleeding, blood poisoning or infection, injuries. Over the last 15 years there have been great advances in miniinvasive techniques. These are operations using a camera, light source and other special instruments. The advantages for the patient is that the operational wound is smaller, there is minimum damage to the walls of the abdomen, generally less pain, as well as a host of other arguments. After years of experience, however, we know that will continue to come up against diagnoses where the “big cut” simply cannot be avoided.

In addition to general surgery, specialised surgical disciplines are starting to be applied at our site. For example, thyroid gland surgery, where we work with the endocrinological out-patient clinic to operate on a series of patients every year. In most cases surgery on the thyroid gland entails its complete removal.

Another area comprises vascular surgery operations. These are frequently blockages of the arteries, particularly in the lower limbs, for example blood embolisms from the left atrium of the heart. If the surgeon does not take the right action immediately, the patient’s lower limb may be seriously at risk. There could even be a serious breakdown in circulation, leading to the limb being amputated. Sadly these dramatic conditions do not just affect older patients. The plan for our operations is to reconstruct clogged or completely blocked sections of artery, known as a bypass.

The most major operation we perform here is a prosthetic replacement of the abdominal artery.

For many years we have focused on the correct surgical treatment of varicose veins with a dermal defect, i.e. a varicose ulcer.

Day-to-day operations are run at the out-patient clinic, the standard department, the intensive care units for the surgical branches and in the operating theatres.

Our aim is to provide modern, high-quality surgical care and to adopt a personal approach with our patients.

Orthopedic department

The orthopedic department with follow-up rehabilitation care has a total of 28 beds, plus an additional 3 intensive care beds as part of the Intensive and Resuscitative Care Unit.

The bed section of the department is located in the new hospital premises. Patients are accommodated in modern, furnished, mostly twin-bedded rooms with separate toilet facilities; some rooms have a TV.

In rooms which do not have a TV set, it is possible to arrange with the ward sister to bring a personal portable set. With above-standard services meals can be ordered individually from our catering facility.

Patients are cared for in the department by a team of qualified doctors, nurses and physiotherapists.

Our patients are operated on in a modern, super-aseptic air-conditioned operating theatre, and there is a separate theatre available for septic orthopedics.

The operations we carry out principally involve endoprotheses of the hip and knee joint; over the last few years we have been performing 400 of these operations a year.

Yet we should not overlook our arthroscopic operations, particularly those on the knee and shoulder, and recently we have performed a great many frontal cross-ligament replacement operations or stabilisation of the shoulder joint for recurrent luxation.

An example of another area where we have put the latest findings and therapeutic procedures into practice is surgery on the foot, mostly to remedy static deformities (hallux valgus, flat foot, finger deformities).

We make us of a modern “NEW DEAL” instrumentarium and surgical implants for foot surgery.

We make as much use as possible of miniinvasive procedures, and computer navigation in indicated cases. We use the ORTHO P.A.S. system for post-op blood sampling, or autotransfusion, modern implants and endoprotheses.

All of this eases the patient’s burden, improves and speeds up healing and rehabilitation after the operation, shortens the time spent in the hospital and the subsequent reconvalescence.

Miniinvasive procedures also reduce post-operative pain and the scars are smaller, which is better from a cosmetic point of view.

All medical care provided in our department is fully paid for by health insurance companies.

More information in the description of the operations.

Internal department

Most people hospitalised in the internal department are patients with acute cardiovascular illnesses, as well as patients with illnesses of the respiratory system, the alimentary canal and diabetes mellitus.

For acute internal illnesses, the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit is used.

All beds in the Intensive Care Unit are equipped with monitors to read essential life functions.

Amongst others there is also a device for external cardiostimulation and a respirator.

The department provides standard care in the field 24 hours a day.

The department’s doctors also run specialized out-patient clinics: cardiological, gastroenterological, diabetological and pulmonary.

Urological out-patient clinic

Surgery hours: Thu 16:00 - 18:00

This out-patient clinic treats patients with illnesses of the kidneys, urinary tract and genitals. It also performs ultrasound and endoscopic examinations of the urinary tract and bladder. The clinic also dispensarizes patients with urological tumours. Appointments must be made for examinations.
